String players at New England Music Camp participate in classes, ensembles and private lessons geared towards strengthening individual skills as well as those skills associated with orchestral and chamber music. String majors perform in either the Symphony Orchestra or the Concert Orchestra. Seating for the orchestras is based on an audition held on the first day of camp and is assigned based on skill and performance level, not age.
A sampling of classes offered specifically for string players includes:
Chamber Music Ensemble – Faculty coached small groups are formed.
Viola for Violinists – An introduction to Viola for violinists. Knowledge of the alto clef is recommended.
Suzuki Violin Class – This is a group class for students who have had training in the Suzuki method.
Cello Choir – This ensemble rehearses weekly to prepare a cello ensemble piece to be performed at the end of the session. Repertoire ranges from Baroque to modern music.Students learn skills that enable them to perform as a unified chamber ensemble.
