NEMC boasts a well-rounded percussion faculty comprised of professional orchestral and percussion ensemble performers, jazz drummers, and college educators. All faculty are on hand at ensemble rehearsals for daily one on one coaching within the section. This individual attention enables NEMC students to prepare challenging repertoire that is “performance-ready” in 5 one-hour rehearsals each week.

All camp percussionists perform in either the Symphony Band or the Concert Bandand may also be selected to perform in Symphony Orchestra or Concert Orchestra. Percussionists can also choose to participate in the jazz program, playing in either the Jazz Ensemble or Jazz Band. Placement for the bands and orchestras is based on an initial audition held on the first day of camp and is assigned based on skill and performance level, not age. Likewise, placement for the jazz groups is based on skill and performance level in the jazz medium.
